With great sadness, we, at the Peter Claver Center mark the passing of Grandmaster Sidney A. Bennett. Mr. Bennett was true gentlemen a great Karate-ka in the 'old school' tradition and a founding member of the Sho-Go-Tae Academy.
Featured in the April 1970 edition of Readers Digest as an Involved American, Titled “The Courage of Sid Bennett. The time was July 1968, the place Chicago’s Cabrini housing project. An angry crowd descended on a Chicago news reporter beating him relentlessly. Master. Bennett interceded, fighting off the crowd, saving the reporter. Master Bennett received Chicago’s Medal of Merit on July 29, 1968. Much more should be written about Grandmaster Bennett and his life.
A memorial will be held at the Peter Claver Center 172 South Chicago Street in Joliet on Sunday June 23 at 6PM
